Bio-based EPDM rubber

A new, bio-based rubber material can reduce your company's carbon footprint. At the same time, you don't compromise on the good qualities of rubber.

Betech now offers a more green and environmentally friendly rubber grade for industrial use. Read about the bio-based EPDM rubber and how it fits into your production.

Green rubber type for industrial production

Bio-based EPDM rubber reduces your company's environmental footprint. Without having to compromise on the good qualities of the rubber. This means that you as a company get:

  • A greener product and company profile

  • A more positive ESG reporting (sustainability report)

  • More potential customers and partners with a sustainable focus

Want to know more about bio-based EPDM rubber and how it fits into your production? At Betech, we are specialists in rubber and polymer products and we are happy to advise you on better product solutions.

Better than conventional EPDM rubber

In general, EPDM rubber is known to be resistant to:

  • Chemistry
  • Warmth
  • Weather
  • UV light and ozone (ISO 1431-1)

The bio-based EPDM rubber has the same great properties. But it also has even better elasticity and tear resistance than conventional EPDM rubber. In addition, it is fire retardant according to. FMVSS/ISO 3795.

In other words, bio-based EPDM rubber is at least as good and versatile a material choice as conventional EPDM rubber - but with more environmentally friendly properties.

For example, it can be used in these industries:

  • Automotive and Aerospace
  • Transportation and infrastructure
  • Construction and civil engineering
  • Electronics and automation
  • Marine and offshore
  • Energy, wind and hydropower
  • Design and consumer products

Skin friendly properties

The bio-based EPDM rubber is also suitable for applications where users are in contact with the material. It fulfills PAH category 2 for products in contact with the skin (EU Regulation 1272/2013). This means that it is free of substances that can cause cancer in humans. Therefore, bio-based EPDM rubber can also be a good choice for design and consumer products.

Lower carbon footprint throughout the supply chain

70 percent of the polymer in bio-based EPDM rubber is made from sugarcane residues. In traditional EPDM rubber, the polymer is made from fossil oils with a larger carbon footprint. In addition, less resources are required to produce the bio-based EPDM rubber. For example, no carcinogenic nitrosamines are used when curing the polymer. At the end of the product's lifespan, the bio-based EPDM rubber can be more easily recycled or biodegraded. You therefore create less waste and make waste management less resource-intensive for your customers.

Here we get a measurable contribution to the environment while maintaining the physical and mechanical properties at a familiar and safe level.

We expect that the many companies that are committed to greater sustainability in all parts of their value chains and products will be interested in materials like FJ5100BIO.
