Rubber membrane longer than a badminton court
Recently, we got a special order for a huge rubber membrane. It had to be 17 x 4.2 meters - that's four meters longer than a badminton court!

The good properties of rubber
Of course, it's not every day we get orders for such large rubber membranes. But it was made and shipped to a trailer manufacturer in Dubai just before Christmas.
Membranes of this type are often used to make an application air or watertight. In this case, the rubber membrane is used in a large vacuum table at the trailer manufacturer. The membrane is made of brown NR/SBR rubber, which is a mixture of natural and synthetic rubber. Here we get the best properties of the two types of rubber:
- High elasticity
- Excellent abrasion resistance
- Good air and water tightness
The large rubber sheet is made by carefully gluing a number of smaller pieces together. To achieve airtightness and sufficient strength, the joints are made as overlapping flaps.
What is NR/SBR rubber?
NR (Natural Rubber) is known from household rubber bands, which have a high elasticity.
SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) is known from car tires, which have a high wear resistance.
