This is what the bottle of the future looks like

The future bottle is made of paper. Paper Bottle Company – PABOCO – is working in collaboration with Betech to develop paper bottles as a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic or glass packaging.

The paper bottles are expected to enter mass production at the end of 2025, and several global companies are already starting to test them for their products.

Manufactured with smart rubber technology

The paper bottles consist of FSC-certified paper fibers and a polymer film made from recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate). The intention is that the bottles – with a thin, inner film of degradable PEF bioplastic – must be 100 percent biobased and complete reusable.

Betech delivers a smart, rubber-based feature that helps to design the paper bottles.

In this exciting innovation, our contribution to PABOCO has consisted of:

  • Material selection
  • Design options (variable customer designs)
  • Production of casting tools
  • Optimizing process parameters

Great interest from well-known brands

Paper bottles could potentially revolutionise packaging as we know it today – and many have taken notice of this.

Right now, world-class companies like Carlsberg, l’Oreal, Coca Cola and The Absolut Company are testing the paper bottles on their products. So even though it might seem crazy right now that paper could contain and protect, for example, food and beverages, it will most likely be a reality in just a few years.
