From customers we receive questions about whether products in our portfolio contain PFAS, and how Betech views the development in this area. Below is the current situation and how Betech approaches the PFAS issue.
PFAS are substances where fluorine is bound to carbon. While some PFAS can be harmful and persistent in the environment, the polymeric PFASs used in some of our technical plastic and rubber materials are not considered dangerous. Our PFAS-based materials include:
PFAS in polymer materials, which is found in some of our plastic and rubber products, provides highly resistant and durable products that are ideal for sealing solutions in demanding industrial applications.
Betech closely monitors international PFAS regulations to ensure that all our products comply with applicable legislation. We work directly with our suppliers to guarantee responsible sourcing and production.
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) includes thousands of man-made chemicals that are widely used in consumer and industrial products, including non-stick cookware, stain-resistant textiles, seals, self-lubricating bearings, and many, many others.
The PFAS category includes all fluoropolymers such as PTFE, PVDF, PFA FEP, FKM, FVMQ and FFKM.
Together with four other countries, Denmark has submitted a proposal for a total ban on the use of PFAS in the EU. Betech follows the development of the case in close cooperation with our partners.Currently, nothing has been decided, as any regulation regarding the use of PFAS remains at the proposal stage.
When there is clarification in the EU, Betech will of course initiate measures to comply with the legislation in force at all times.
