Sustainability and CSR

Betech is a trading and production company with many partners both locally and internationally. Therefore, we are committed to initiatives that contribute to sustainable production and responsible business practices both within ourselves and in our network of partners.

In our own production and in our dealings with subcontractors, we comply with REACH, RoHS, and WEEE-the directives in an effort to protect both the environment and people from harmful chemicals and materials.

With our code of conduct – Code of Conduct – we commit ourselves and our suppliers to adhering to the ten principles in UN Global Compact on human rights, labor, the environment and the fight against corruption.

At Betech, with our 3-pronged strategy for green and sustainable development, you get several reassuring benefits:

  • A partner and supplier working on development in the entire supply chain
  • A partner and supplier who works on improvements in areas that are generally accepted as relevant and essential to the industry
  • A partner and supplier with support and guidance for the green transition from an international holding company

Focus areas for sustainable development

Betech supports the integrated approach of the Addtech Group sustainability-model and focuses on development within three overarching, generally recognized areas:

  • Sustainable company – We must maximize the proportion of sales and services that contribute to a sustainable transition and development.

  • Sustainable organization – We must reduce the C02 intensity in our own business operations through efficient freight transport, less use of traditional business travel and a minimized energy consumption.

  • Sustainable supply chain – We must continuously evaluate the suppliers’ commitment to sustainable development and ensure their ratification and compliance with our code of conduct.

Current SDG Initiatives

In all three focus areas, our goal is to achieve and ensure business decisions, relationships and processes that support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Below are the initiatives that we currently consider relevant, essential and realistic.

Sustainable supply chain

Evaluation of suppliers and their CSR commitment

Betech collaborates with a diverse global network of suppliers to provide the trade goods and raw materials for the production of products for our customers.

We take responsibility for sustainable trade based on fair conditions. Therefore, suppliers must declare their agreement to and comply with our standards. ’Code of Conduct for Suppliers’.

It is based on the UN Global Compact, the ILO conventions on child and forced labor, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the OECD guidelines for multinational companies and competition and anti-corruption.

To ensure continuity and compliance ’Code of Conduct’, The goal is that at least 80 percent of our purchasing volume will be represented in the survey over time.

Morality, responsibility and justice – The initiative contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 8 (decent jobs), 12 (responsible production) and 16 (justice).

UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Sustainable supply chain

ISO 14001 Environmental Management

With a certified environmental management system, Betech focuses not only on internal processes but also involves suppliers and the entire supply chain right up to our customers.

Suppliers are informed about Betech's environmental policy and expectations for continuous improvements. Documentation of environmental performance and audits from partners in the supply chain This can involve requirements regarding resource consumption, waste management, energy utilization, and emissions.

The framework of the ISO 14001 standard supports proactive dialogue with suppliers to reduce environmental impact. This can be done through product development, optimization of production, logistics, or the implementation of environmental management systems at the suppliers’ own facilities.

Betech includes environmental aspects as part of internal audits and supplier evaluations. This ensures that partners comply with relevant legal requirements and contribute to Betech’s environmental goals.

Cleaner energy, less resource consumption, fewer emissions – environmental management contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 7 (sustainable energy), 9 (innovation and infrastructure) and 12 (responsible production).

Consignment shipments on fixed weekdays

To reduce the transport intensity from Betech to the customers, we have introduced fixed shipping days.

This means that frequent customers who order products from Betech several times a week or even every day will in the future receive deliveries from us once a week. (Alternatively, twice a week if very large volumes or other special circumstances warrant it).

Reduced carbon footprint – With fixed shipping days, the volume of goods delivered per transport increases, and the CO2 intensity of our domestic delivery service is reduced. The initiative contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13.

Recycling and upcycling

No matter how effectively we seek to utilize the materials, we will inevitably have excess residues from the manufacturing of gaskets and seals.

For certain materials, we can return the remains for recycling to the manufacturer.

Copper, aluminum, iron and stainless steel are sorted and sold for recycling, which has several benefits for the environment and the climate: Recycling 1 ton of iron saves, for example, over 1 ton of CO2 emissions. Recycling aluminum is excellent, as it is energy-intensive to produce: 95% of the energy is saved compared to the production of aluminum from new ore.

In cooperation with THE UPCYCL – a Danish initiative for sustainable recycling – we seek to circulate waste materials from our production to operators in other markets. The life cycles of materials are extended in new supply chains for the benefit of the environment. Waste becomes a resource and reduces the need for new, virgin materials.

Better utilization of resources – The initiatives contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 12 on consumption and production by reusing refined resources rather than burning them or disposing of them.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Local compound and regional production

It is common for injection-molded rubber parts to be manufactured in Asia. For Betech, this primarily takes place at our own sister company in Qingdao. To minimize the transportation of raw materials and semi-finished products, the rubber compound is manufactured according to Betech’s recipes at local mixing plants.

For companies in Europe, we also offer a European production of their rubber parts: a more sustainable alternative where the total transport route is reduced, energy consumption is reduced, and the delivery time can often be shorter.

Reduced carbon footprint – The initiative contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 13 by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation of raw materials and semi-finished products.

Freight by rail instead of by plane

Over the years up to January 2022, more and more finished goods were transported to Europe by cargo aircraft. Since January 2022, the preferred transport method for serial production and other larger batches of goods from China has changed from air and sea transport to rail transport.

The modified transport form reduces the transport-related CO2 footprint from up to 704 to just 32.7 grams per ton-km, which is a potential reduction of 95 percent.

The railway also provides shorter transit time and better supply security than the immediate alternative, transport by freight ship.

Air freight is only used exceptionally and at the customer's request as a transport option.

Reduced carbon footprint – The initiative contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 13 by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the distribution of goods.

Sustainable organization

Green electricity and minimal electricity consumption for lighting

As of New Year 2024, the production facilities and offices in Bramming have switched to 100 percent green electricity. The annual electricity consumption is covered by CO2-neutral, renewable energy from Nordic hydropower plants through the purchase of climate certificates from our supply company.

The office lighting with fluorescent tubes was replaced in 2023 with LED light sources. In addition to a much lower power consumption, a significant improvement in the working environment has been achieved. The replacement of light sources in production and service areas continues on a section-by-section basis until all room lighting is LED technology.

Reduced carbon footprint – The initiative contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 7 (sustainable energy) and 13 (climate action) by reducing energy consumption for lighting in office and production areas, as well as prioritizing CO2-neutral energy supply.

Sustainable organization

Reduced heat consumption and an energy-efficient office

At the site in Bramming, the consumption of gas for space heating has been reduced by installing heat pumps in the canteen area (2019) and in the offices (2023). During the winter period, heating is reduced by 20%.The ambient temperature in the production buildings, and new control automation enable an additional reduction in gas consumption for water and space heating.

From the New Year 2024, the annual gas consumption will be covered by CO2-neutral biogas purchased through a climate certificate from our supply company.

The administration and sales department in Herlev has moved to modern, energy-efficient office premises, where a better layout of the workplaces has been achieved on a 20 percent smaller area. (2025).

Reduced carbon footprint – The initiative contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 7 (sustainable energy) and 13 (climate action) by reducing energy consumption for heating office and production spaces, as well as prioritizing CO2-neutral energy supply.

Sustainable organization

Virtual meetings and digitized offices

It can be very useful to meet in person, but to a large extent meetings – both internal and external – are carried out on online platforms. The energy consumption and emissions related to travel, hotel stays, and physical meeting facilities are reduced.

Since 2021, Betech has processed invoices from creditors digitally. Most invoices are received digitally, and paper documents are scanned, so all invoices can be prepared for approval, accounting, and payment in an automated workflow. The digitalization has streamlined the work process and reduced the consumption of copy paper, printer toner, and electricity.

Lower resource consumption and reduced carbon footprint – The initiatives contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 12 and 13 by reducing the consumption/exploitation of natural resources and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.
